Making pie crust from scratch is pretty simple once you get the hang of it. Here's a classic all-butter pie crust recipe that's flaky and delicious:
🥧 Basic Pie Crust Recipe (for one 9-inch crust)
Ingredients:
-
1 1/4 cups (150g) all-purpose flour
-
1/2 tsp salt
-
1/2 cup (1 stick or 113g) cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
-
3–5 tbsp ice water
Instructions:
-
Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
-
Cut in butter: Add cold, cubed butter. Use a pastry cutter, fork, or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with some pea-sized bits of butter remaining.
-
Add ice water: Drizzle in ice water 1 tablespoon at a time, gently mixing with a fork after each addition. Add just enough water until the dough holds together when pressed.
-
Form dough: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead it a couple times to bring it together. Shape into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for at least 1 hour (or up to 2 days).
-
Roll out: On a floured surface, roll the dough into a 12-inch circle. Gently place it into a 9-inch pie dish and trim/shape the edges as needed.
-
Use as needed: Chill again before filling, or blind bake depending on your recipe.
