Skin flooding is a skincare technique that involves layering multiple hydrating products in quick succession, usually starting on damp skin, to “flood” the skin with moisture and help it retain hydration more effectively.

The goal:

To deeply hydrate and plump the skin by using products with humectants (like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or polyglutamic acid) that draw moisture into the skin.

How to do skin flooding:

  1. Cleanse your face

  2. Apply a hydrating toner or facial mist while your skin is still damp

  3. Follow with a serum rich in humectants (like hyaluronic acid or panthenol)

  4. Seal it in with a moisturizer

  5. (Optional: Finish with an occlusive like a balm or facial oil if you have dry skin)

Best for:

  • Dry, dehydrated, or dull skin

  • Skin that feels tight or flaky

  • Anyone wanting a plump, dewy look

Caution:

  • If you don’t seal in the hydration with a moisturizer, humectants can pull moisture out of your skin, especially in dry environments.

  • Avoid if your skin is already very oily or acne-prone, unless you’re using lightweight, non-comedogenic products.
