You should apply treatments before moisturizer—especially if they’re serums, exfoliants, or active ingredients like:

  • Vitamin C

  • Hyaluronic acid

  • Niacinamide

  • Retinol

  • AHAs/BHAs (glycolic, salicylic acid)

🌟 Why before moisturizer?

  • Moisturizers create a barrier that can block active treatments from absorbing effectively.

  • Treatments work best when applied to clean, dry (or slightly damp) skin so they can penetrate deeper.

🔁 Exception: Spot treatments with strong actives

  • Some acne spot treatments (like benzoyl peroxide or sulfur) may be better after moisturizer to reduce irritation—this is called the “moisturizer sandwich” method.

🧴 General layering order:

  1. Cleanser

  2. (Optional: toner)

  3. Treatment/serum (like vitamin C, retinol, acids)

  4. Moisturizer

  5. Sunscreen (AM only)
