What is a Gua Sha?
Gua sha is a traditional East Asian healing technique that involves scraping a smooth-edged tool—usually made of jade or rose quartz—across the skin to promote circulation, relieve tension, and encourage lymphatic drainage. In modern skincare, it’s used as a facial massage tool to help with puffiness, sculpting, and relaxation.
How to Use a Gua Sha on Your Face:
-
Prep Your Skin:
-
Start with a clean face.
-
Apply a facial oil or serum so the tool glides smoothly without tugging your skin.
-
-
Hold the Tool Correctly:
-
Use it flat against your skin (around 15° angle), not perpendicular.
-
The curved side should hug the contours of your face.
-
-
Massage Directions:
Always work outward and upward—never drag down.-
Neck: Sweep from the base of the neck upward to the jawline.
-
Jawline: Glide from the chin to the ear along the jaw.
-
Cheeks: Move from the side of the nose across the cheekbones to the ear.
-
Under Eyes: Use gentle pressure, moving from the inner corner out toward the temple.
-
Brow & Forehead: Sweep from the center of the forehead out toward the hairline and up toward the scalp.
-
-
Pressure:
-
Use light to medium pressure. It should feel relaxing—not painful or harsh.
-
-
Duration:
-
3–5 minutes per session is enough. You can do it 3–5 times a week.
-
-
Clean Your Tool:
-
Wash it with gentle soap and water after each use.
-
Tips:
-
Keep your gua sha tool in the fridge for a cooling, de-puffing effect.
-
Be consistent to see sculpting or lymphatic results over time.
-
Avoid using on broken skin, active acne, or inflamed areas.
