When to Apply Face Oils in Your Routine

The best time to apply face oils is at the end of your skincare routine, typically at night, after your moisturizer. Oils help lock in hydration and create a barrier that prevents moisture loss while you sleep.

🕰️ When to Apply Face Oils in Your Routine

  • Last step at night (after moisturizer)

  • Optionally in the morning (after moisturizer and before sunscreen), but only if the oil is lightweight and won't interfere with makeup or SPF

💧 Why After Moisturizer?

  • Oils are occlusive, meaning they seal in the ingredients beneath them.

  • If applied before water-based serums or moisturizers, they can block absorption of those products.

✅ Great Times to Use Face Oils:

  • When your skin feels dry, tight, or dehydrated

  • After exfoliation or retinol use, to soothe skin

  • In colder, drier months to prevent transepidermal water loss (TEWL)

🛑 Skip or Use Caution If:

  • You have acne-prone or oily skin — opt for non-comedogenic oils like squalane, rosehip, or jojoba

  • You're layering under SPF or makeup — some oils can cause pilling or interfere with product performance
