To test if a cake is done baking, try one (or more) of these classic methods:

Toothpick test: Insert a toothpick or skewer into the center—if it comes out clean or with a few crumbs (but no wet batter), it’s done.

Spring back: Gently press the center of the cake; if it springs back, it’s ready.

Edges pulling away: The cake’s edges should slightly pull away from the pan.

Smell test: You’ll often smell a rich, baked aroma when it’s just about done.
