Perfect Stovetop White Rice

The best way to cook rice depends on the type of rice you're using, but here’s a foolproof method for cooking fluffy white rice on the stove:

🍚 Perfect Stovetop White Rice (Long-Grain or Jasmine)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup white rice

  • 2 cups water

  • 1/2 tsp salt (optional)

  • 1 tsp oil or butter (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the Rice
Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs mostly clear. This removes excess starch and helps prevent it from becoming sticky.

  2. Boil the Water
In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add the salt and oil or butter if using.

  3. Add the Rice
Once the water is boiling, stir in the rice. Let it return to a gentle boil.

  4. Cover and Simmer
Lower the heat to a low simmer and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid. Cook for 15-18 minutes without lifting the lid.

  5. Turn Off Heat & Steam
After the time is up, turn off the heat but leave the pot covered. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes. This lets the steam finish cooking the rice and gives you perfect texture.

  6. Fluff and Serve
Remove the lid, fluff the rice with a fork, and serve!

🍴 Tips for Success:

  • Use a heavy-bottomed pan to prevent scorching.

  • Never stir the rice once it’s simmering.

  • Want extra flavor? Use broth instead of water or toss in garlic, herbs, or bay leaf.
