Why Men Might Use Different Products

Not necessarily—men don't need different skincare products than women. Most skincare products are unisex and work based on skin type (oily, dry, sensitive, combination), not gender. However, there are some factors where men might benefit from slightly different formulations or routines:

Why Men Might Use Different Products:

  1. Thicker, oilier skin:

    • Men typically have more sebaceous (oil) activity and thicker skin.

    • Products for oily or combination skin (lightweight, non-comedogenic) may work better.

  2. Facial hair & shaving:

    • Shaving causes irritation and ingrown hairs.

    • Products with soothing ingredients (like aloe, witch hazel) and exfoliants (like salicylic acid) help prevent razor bumps.

  3. Scent & packaging preferences:

    • Men’s lines often use more neutral/“masculine” scents and simpler packaging.

    • This is mostly marketing—use what feels good and works for your skin.

What Matters More Than Gender:

  • Skin type: oily, dry, combination, or sensitive

  • Skin concerns: acne, aging, hyperpigmentation, ingrown hairs

  • Consistency: A basic routine done daily works better than an elaborate one done occasionally

Bottom Line:

You can absolutely use products marketed to women—many are better formulated and less expensive. Focus on ingredients and function, not the label.
