☀️ UVA & UVB Protection Might Be Missing – Why That Matters
When it comes to sun protection, not all SPF products are created equal. Many makeup products may mention “SPF” on the label, but that doesn't guarantee you're protected from all types of sun damage.
🌞 UVB = Sunburn
UVB rays are the ones responsible for burning your skin. SPF numbers (like SPF 15 or 30) mainly measure how well a product protects against UVB rays.
🌤️ UVA = Aging + Long-Term Damage
UVA rays penetrate deeper into the skin and are the culprits behind:
-
Premature aging
-
Fine lines & wrinkles
-
Hyperpigmentation
-
Even skin cancer
And here’s the kicker: UVA rays pass through windows, so even indoors or in the car, you’re still exposed.
❗ Most Makeup Only Covers UVB
Many makeup products with SPF don’t protect against UVA rays, unless they specifically say "Broad Spectrum" on the label. If it's not broad spectrum, you're missing half the protection you need.
✅ What You Can Do:
-
Look for “Broad Spectrum”
Always choose sunscreens (and makeup with SPF) that say “Broad Spectrum” — this means it protects against both UVA and UVB rays. -
Layer Your Protection
Use a dedicated sunscreen with broad-spectrum protection before applying makeup. -
Reapply Every 2 Hours
Use an SPF setting spray or powder over makeup for reapplication. It's an easy way to stay protected without messing up your look.
